I was really hoping and thinking that with Obama as President that a lasting peace with Israel and the Palestinian Authority might actually be possible. I have been frustrated again and again when it appeared some progress had been made that the Israeli leadership did somethig seemingly to derail the process as in building more settlements in the disputed areas. This story makes me understand how hopeless it is with the current government there and makes me wonder if we should alter our stance and our open checkbook to those in power there? Ruth Dayan's perspective is well worth reading.
