This woman is starting to scare me and my ultimate nightmare is the possibility of a Palin-Perry (that's Gov. Rick Perry of Texas) ticket for President-Vice President in 2012. I'm thinking that may be possible and if they succeed it would be very bad for this nation. Maybe things like this will continue to pop up and make even her most rabid supporters stop and think about her qualifications???

Palin Hand Notes Are Alarming, Embarrassing

Take a look at Sarah Palin's hand here,
(IMG:http://images.huffingtonpost.com/2010-02-07-palinhandsmaller1.jpg)(IMG:http://images.huffingtonpost.com/2010-02-07-palinhandclose.jpg)
on which she apparently wrote notes on in anticipation of being asked at the Tea Party convention what the priorities of a Republican congress should be. Her hand read: "Energy ... Tax cuts ... Lift American spirit." A few thoughts:

If she had written "bread ... milk ... eggs" on her hand, or even a phone number, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation. And if, say, a congressman had written "pay the electric bill," we would have thought it was charming, like Uncle Billy in It's a Wonderful Life tying strings on his fingers to remember to make the bank deposit. We're all forgetful, we all have a million things to do, and sometimes we write reminders on our hands. I understand that.

Unfortunately, Mrs. Palin didn't write down a reminder for an everyday errand. Instead she felt she had to write down basic political priorities, core issues for the GOP. That's the problem. Imagine if President Obama were at a similar Q&A session and the camera caught the words "Hope ... Change" on his hand.

I'm not religious so I thought this was a bit ... far-fetched. This is a woman who thinks God could solve a lot of America's problems. If she is going to rely on God alone to solve the problems of your country, I'd be more than just a little worried.

I've already said I don't trust her & she scares me too!

I thought the Tea Party was going to go after new blood instead of the same old, same old! I would also have concerns about her being able to control her husband since a bunch of his emails have come to light!

OK, having done ssome public speaking (which I hate), there is nothing new or unusual about using notes. That they are written on her hand? A little different, but when you're running around a room gladhanding, written notes can be left around (and I've done THAT many times, too) and become useless.

That said, apparently the fact that she is using "crib notes" scares some people, when the constant use of a teleprompter by our president scares no one?

The man is one hell of an orator, no question, but is unable to speak with out it. I am not aware of any situation in which he has either spoken impromptu or without a teleprompter.

People are spending way too much time picking on the minutia, which also says to me the fear something. It's in our nature to find SOMETHING to pick on when we fear. It minimizes theo object of the concern.

That said, I think Palin has some good ideas, but I don't think she is strong enough to make a run at the presidency, not by herself. She appeals to me as being a basic American, not someone who has had their life laid before them at the whim of "someone" who has paved the streets. She has encountered the bumps along the path that you and I have.

To take something so minor as the crib notes and make a big thing about it, is chaff in the wind. Kinda like making a big thing about Obama's "Dad jeans". Who cares?

Thanks Bookie, I was going to say everybody uses notes of some kind, you should see my desk, I have post-it notes everywhere. I have to cultivate them once in a while to weed out the ones I no longer need.

The fact is she has Que words written on her hand, one or two words to remind her of the course she will take, what is the big deal? I think it is a good idea. I will still vote for her if she runs, she is smarter than anyone else in any position in Washington with the exception of a Janitor or two.

Nothing wrong with using crib notes. It's what is on them that is telling:

"Energy ... Tax cuts ... Lift American spirit."

If someone has core beliefs and a true policy agenda these things should not have to be on notes in order to remember them.

I have used similar notes, sometimes I have so much stuff to remember simple words reminds me of paragraphs of information. I see nothing wrong with this at all.

I swear I've been "discussing" the same damn thing with your cousin on another board, Tanger. At least YOU are sane. (I think!)

Have you ever done any public speaking?
If you functioned without any notes, stayed on track, on target, and didn't miss a salient point, then kudos.

But me, scatter brained and more than willing to go off on tangents, uses notes. No, I don't usually use my hand, but then I'm not making my way through a crowded room full of people looking to shake my hand.

I even write notes to answer questions, which are a part of my talk.... because once again, staying on target, being informative, non-repetitive and cohesive is, well, the point of the matter.

Does the POTUS not use a telepromter? Was she not using her hand as an informal teleprompter? (even I am laughing here!)

If this "scares" you, I think you best be looking a little closer at who is in the big chair right now.

Yes I have had to speak in front of a crowd and used a clipbord full of notes. One of the really grating things to me about Mrs. Palin's note was that they showed as she stood behind that lectern saying in her folksy way that "we need a Commander In Chief...not a professor behind a lectern with a teleprompter." Maybe if you need a note to remember that you want to "lift American spirit" you shouldn't at the same time be making fun of a POTUS for using a teleprompter to explain very complicated issues.

Energy and tax cuts I can understand but "lift American spirit"? If she needs a hand-written reminder to do something as basic and instinctive as that, it makes me wonder what other simple components she needs constant reminding of.

I agree with Kimba. Could care less where she puts her notes, but if she believes in what she thinks is the right thing, then she should know the key points already and not have to write them down, especially on her hand.

This tells me that someone said to her before the speech "Ok, these are the key points you want to talk about", and that those points didn't come from her at all.

If they did, well then that tells me she has a really short attention span.

Either way, I will never vote for her. She's more of a nutjob than Obama is.

Honestly, I really think it is going to take a revolution to straighten this country out. It's pretty messed up.

Jeez. Lead ins, folks!

My notes for my worm composting talks INCLUDE points to answer questions, and if someone actually read my notes, would think I was off my meds. But they mean something to ME... points I don't want to miss making, or additional information I think of value.

What bothers me is how hard to left defends Obama for his use of a teleprompter, but rips at Palin for her notes. Pick one or the other, right or wrong?

I'm not defending Palin, I've stated before I don't think she is strong enough to go it on her own. I am defending what she did with her notes.

Did you see the latest? Writing Hi Mom on her hand to tweek the left? I had to laugh at the humor in that one....

I happen to think we have bigger problems in this country than our POTUS using a teleaprompter. Kind of a shame that she can remember to bring that up but has to have notes about the American Spirit!

I agree with EB...probably going to take a revolution to straighten out this country. I just hope we actually have some people that know how to lead step up to the front!
I just don't see a lot of leadership qualities in any of the politicians right now!
